What is Green-Washing?
Green-Washing is when a company presents disinformation about a product to seem like they are making a good impact for your health. It is so common in store’s today. Most products today contain things like the word “fragrance”, parabens, and sulfates. Today in the store it is near impossible to find anything without the word “fragrance”.
Why the Word “Fragrance” Should Not Be In Our Products?
This word is a HUGE loophole that it seems they get everyone to overlook. Fragrance listed in any products for topical use is IT”S OWN LIST of ingredients! That means they can stick up to 100 different ingredients of ANY kind and they don’t have to list it on the back of the label. That means a number of extreme toxic things can be in your shampoo, body wash, hair spray, lotions, perfumes, etc. Since the word “fragrance” is considered proprietary to that company, they don’t even have to tell you what is in the product if you have a reaction to it. Did you ever think about other things that they could be putting in your body washes? It is 100% legal for them to add things like toilet bowl cleaners and feces to your products! Don’t believe me, go research it yourself. There is no law that says they have to tell you.
Did you know Chanel number 5 perfume contains toilet bowl cleaner? Also that they can get feces to smell like hazelnut scent? Watch the “Stink!” movie on Netflix. You’re mind will be blown on that documentary. There is a lot I knew about “fragrance” but those two things above weren’t one of them!
Common Mistakes People Make Buying “Clean Products”.
The biggest mistake you can make buying “clean products” is buying ones that say “essential oils added for scent”. This is probably the BIGGEST greenwash I have ever seen. Many people buy products with essential oils but those products most of the time STILL contain the word “fragrance”! Look on the label more because they sneak it in. It is one of the biggest marketing hacks of all time.
Another one is that NOT ALL OILS ARE EVEN CLOSE TO THE SAME. There are no regulations on essential oils friends. They are allowed to label your oils Organic, 100% Pure Therapeutic Grade and then still only contain 5% essential oil in the whole bottle. The rest of the bottle is allowed to be filled with fillers like synthetics of floral water. Floral water has no value to it. It is the leftover water from the plant after distilling.
How Do I Avoid These Loopholes?
The biggest way to avoid Green-Washing is to RESEARCH your company. Make sure you aren’t buying from a company that has other toxic products if all possible. Those are the ones I find cut corners because why wouldn’t they just make all around clean products instead of producing only clean?
The company needs to be really open about how they create and produce their products. If you want to learn ways to save time to not have to check the back of literally EVERYTHING, check out my Health Category. There is where I share what I use for trustworthy safe clean products.
