Denim on denim is so fun to style and it has been a style for so long. It went away but now it’s back. The biggest key is to not overthink it…I am guilty of this! Whether you’re heading to a country concert or just want to bring some cowboy punch to your day, a denim-on-denim outfit is the perfect way to stand out.
Let’s dive into how you can master this iconic Western denim-on-denim trend and make it your own.
This denim on denim look is one of my favorites! The vest is well made.
Start with a pair of your favorite high-waisted jeans. Pair them with a slightly lighter or darker denim shirt to create contrast. I know as an overthinker you’re like is the contrast to much? I try to keep it only a few shades off to look the best! The key here is balance—tuck in the shirt and add a leather belt with a statement buckle to break up the denim and add some structure.
Finish the Look: A pair of pointed-toe cowboy boots and a felt hat will take this outfit to the next level. Don’t forget to roll up your sleeves for that laid-back style.
A rugged, distressed, denim jacket is perfect to style a western look. Layer it over a button-down or a denim jumpsuit for an effortless, pulled-together look. This is perfect for those cooler days when you want to stay warm without sacrificing style.
This denim on denim look I created is so classy, old style, and the denims go SO well together. The color is so close it flows well.
Styling Tip: Pop the collar on your jacket for a little extra attitude, and add a colorful wild rag (bigger than a bandana if you’re new to Western fashion) around your neck to create an elegant / retro look. Sometimes silk wild rags really spice up an outfit!
The colors on this look I created are off but it still flows nicely because then denims are around the same shade.
Denim skirts are making a huge comeback, and they pair perfectly with denim tops. Whether it’s a button-front mini or a flowy midi, you can’t go wrong. Tuck in a fitted denim shirt and cinch your waist with a bold belt. Gives a western chic look.
One of the easiest ways to nail denim on denim is by playing with different shades of blue. Try pairing light-wash jeans with a dark indigo jacket or top for a dynamic and eye-catching outfit. The varying tones create depth and keep your look fresh.
Add a pair of white boots or a cream-colored cowboy hat to brighten up the outfit and keep it visually catchy.
Denim on denim can be easy to style, just start with some pieces that match closer in color. Whether you’re going full-on punchy cowgirl or adding subtle Western touches, this trend is something you can style on the fly.
Remember, fashion is meant to be fun—so don’t be afraid to experiment with different washes, fits, and accessories until you find a look that feels like you. This is how I started sharing fashion, venturing out into trying to style things I wouldn’t gravitate to, and then they end up looking like amazing cute styled outfits!
