Did you know anger, stress, and hurt get passed down from generation to generation? It is something that is hard to break the chains on. The Agriculture industry has breed this throughout generation after generation in families.
Do you see how many young adults today have no desire to take over the family farm? This has a lot to do with it. One of the biggest things this issue has caused is the lack of wanting to change. Most farms that have been there for many generations are getting sold off and the kids are not wanting anything to do with it. I never understood why for the longest time until I got a glimpse from another angle. I have personally always wanted to farm even though I didn’t get a farm handed to me by my family; it has always been something I have wanted to pursue. Being involved in many agriculture things throughout my life has taught me a lot. I have seen how over the years God has used me to bring light to this subject in the world regardless of wanting to in another way than how I am today.
I have seen both sides clearly on commercial and regenerative agriculture. There have been two completely different types of communities the people bring to each one. One has been so supportive, always working with how you learn no matter where you’re from or who you are. The other one well… feels a bit judgmental, harsh by making you feel you must know everything possible about agriculture or you know absolutely nothing about what you’re talking about. I’m gonna let you guess which side is which. This really isn’t something many talk about but it is a pretty big elephant in the room. I have talked to many about this issue in the past.
Whether you are in Commercial Ag or Regenerative Ag practices, it is your job no matter what the community is like to make everyone feel good about what they believe in whether or not you agree. Each community we create or pursue is going to leave a legacy that is either going to bring new ideas or new amazing people to it. Now I have always been involved in agriculture in some way or another through life, even though I didn’t get a farm handed to me, I still would consider myself pretty well educated on this subject.
However if I were new to this industry and I wasn’t sure of my belief on commercial or regenerative ag practices, I would probably go towards the regenerative community before the commercial. Growing up in the commercial community of Ag was honestly full of judgment, hatefulness, and the feeling of “you know nothing compared to what I know”. What it did is reflect back on me when I was educating others about commercial farming in the past. Do you know the only real people I reached was commercial farmers that already “knew that”? I wasn’t cultivating an open community of education that would educate those “city people”.
What’s the point in educating then? I see so many people just like me in the past, educate people in a way of hatefulness. Speaking on a subject but after your done you get the feeling like your stupid for believing in organic or non GMO, or even commercial. Remember not everyone grew up in the Ag industry so educating them gently will go farther than throwing it up on them in a hateful, judgmental way.
I have had to reinvent how I educate people of Regenerative Ag because of the way I grew up. It cultivated a bit of a toxic way of educating about the subject agriculture. I think everyone can be respectful of someone’s belief no matter what they believe. Just because that person believes a certain way now doesn’t mean they will believe the same exact way two years later. Ask me how I know.
Create the community that educates people in a way they will feel good when your done talking!
